Recession: Top 4 Solutions Proposed By Dino Melaye

As Nigeria marks the 56th anniversary of her independence, the leadership at all levels of governance must begin to sacrifice more to serve both as an example and an inspiration to the citizenry to bond together and pull the nation out of the current economic recession, Senator Dino Melaye (Kogi West) has declared.

In his anniversary message in Abuja , Melaye urged Nigerians not to despair yet, but to continue to support the federal government in her determined effort to pull the nation out of the recession.

He also called on Nigerians to continue to show resolve by seeking common ground to face the difficult economic realities with unity of purpose.

Naijaloaded has compiled six solutions Melaye has proferred to the current economic crisis bedeviling the nation which if implemented are capable of fast-tracking our way out of the recession.

1. As a means of addressing the dwindling state of revenues accruing to the federal government which is adversely affecting the implementation of the 2016 budget, deliberate effort must be made to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into the country. This can be achieved by improving the security situation in the North East and the Niger Delta since no serious investor will put his his resources in a climate where insecurity is a daily fare.

2. The government must also devise ways to pacify the Niger Delta Avengers and other militant groups in the region through a very creative, robust and efficient amnesty programme. This programme must also be implemented simultaneously with a robust and sincere “Marshall Plan” for the development of the region. Sustainable peace in the Niger Delta would lead to the security of oil installations, boost oil and gas among others.

3. The diversification of the economy away from the current mainstay-oil, to agriculture and manufacturing must also be pursued more aggressively if Nigeria must be pulled out of the recession in the shortest time possible.

4. Relevant laws must be reviewed and new ones enacted to give states and local governments higher stakes and autonomy in the exploration and exploitation of solid minerals in their domains. This will breed competition amongst states and local governments, create jobs, boost the local economy and reduce unemployment, crime and other associated social vices”.

“Buhari Was In A Hurry As Military Ruler, But Now Slow And Steady In Governance” – Tinubu Says

The national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has drawn a comparison between President Muhammadu Buhari’s time as a young military head of state and now that he is the president of the country.

He pointed out that while Buhari was in a hurry as a military ruler in the 80’s, the president has become “slow but steady” in his approach to governance “now that he is older and given his experience”.

Tinubu stated this on Monday during the launch of a book — ‘Muhammadu Buhari: The Challenges of Leadership in Nigeria’, written by John Paden, a professor of international studies — at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.

While pointing out that Paden succinctly explained the transition from the Buhari in uniform to one in civilian garb, the former Lagos governor said; “he notes that in terms of style of leadership, Buhari as a young military head of state was in a hurry.

“However, now that he is older and given his experience, he is ‘slow but steady’ in his approach to governance.”
He went on to state that, “During the campaign, he (Buhari) surprised many by his agility and the broad canvas on which he operated.

“In tracing the evolution of Buhari, the national leader, the author’s assertion that military rule is based on the power its holders can wield, while civilian rule is based on the legitimacy derived from elections, is a point with which I dare not debate.

“Buhari’s career embodies this, hence his transition from being a military ruler to being a civilian leader, who subjected himself to the rigors and uncertainty of elections four times. Thrice he patiently went to court, seeking redress from electoral manipulation.

“The author, quite accurately, remarked on the Buhari victory equation, as flowing from Northern grassroots support and coalition-building with the South West as well as with other tendencies.”

Tinubu had recently denied a media report quoting him as saying that Buhari begged him to emerge president in 2015. The ex-governor asserted that the story was concocted by his political enemies.

HIV Cure, Could this be True? Doctors Make Remarkable Breakthrough

Just like Malaria and other similar ailment, the fear of HIV is coming to an end… UK scientists and clinicians working on a groundbreaking trial to test a cure for the HIV infection say they have made remarkable progress after a test patient showed no sign of the virus following treatment.

The research, being carried out by five of Britain’s top universities with NHS support, is combining standard anti-retroviral drugs with a drug that reactivates dormant HIV and a vaccine that induces the immune system to destroy the infected cells.
Antiretoviral drugs alone are highly effective at stopping the virus from reproducing but do not eradicate the disease, so must be taken for life.

Fifty patients are taking part in the trial and early tests on the first person to complete the treatment show no signs of the virus in his blood, the Sunday Times reported.
There is still a long way to go before the treatment can be deemed a success as the virus has previously re-emerged in people thought to have been “cured” and the use of antiretroviral drugs means the researchers cannot be sure the HIV has gone. Nevertheless there is optimism over the findings.

Mark Samuels, the managing director of the National Institute for Health Research Office for Clinical Research Infrastructure, told the Sunday Times: “This is one of the first serious attempts at a full cure for HIV. We are exploring the real possibility of curing HIV. This is a huge challenge and it’s still early days but the progress has been remarkable.”

HIV is able to hide itself from the immune system in dormant cells where highly sophisticated modern testing cannot find it and therefore resist therapy. The treatment endeavours to trick the virus into emerging from its hiding places and then trigger the body’s immune system to recognise it and attack it, an approach that has been called “kick and kill”.

There are approximately 37 million people living with HIV worldwide and about 35 million people have died from the virus.
The difficulty of declaring a patient clear of HIV was illustrated by the case of a girl in Mississippi, who was put on a strong course of antiretroviral drugs within 30 hours of her birth in 2010 after her mother was found to be HIV positive.

Treatment continued until the hospital lost contact with the mother 18 months later. When mother and child reappeared five months later the baby had no detectable virus in her blood, raising hopes that early intervention had cured her, but two years the virus had re-emerged.

The only person believed to have been cured was Timothy Ray Brown, an American treated in Germany. He needed a bone marrow transplant to replace his own cancerous cells with stem cells that would remake his immune system and his doctor found him a donor who was naturally resistant to HIV infection due to a genetic mutation that blocks HIV from entering the cells in the human body.

However, stem cell transplants are difficult and potentially dangerous for the recipient and only undertaken where they can save a life.

Breaking: Aston Villa Sack Manager Roberto Di Matteo

Aston Villa have parted company with manager Roberto Di Matteo after only 12 matches in charge.

The Italian, who was appointed in June , leaves with Villa 19th in the Championship. Steve Clarke will take over as caretaker manager, with Steve Bruce and David Wagner, the manager of Huddersfield Town, expected to be targeted by the club’s owner, Tony Jiantong Xia.

“Aston Villa Football Club has today parted company with manager Roberto Di Matteo,” read a statement .
“The club decided to act following a run of disappointing results which has the left the team occupying 19th position in the Championship.

“The club would like to place on record its appreciation to Roberto for all his efforts in helping rebuild the squad and wish him well for the future.
Steve Clarke will take over as caretaker manager during the search for a new manager. There will be no further comment from the club.”

Di Matteo’s reign is the shortest of any permanent Villa manager in the club’s history and they are now looking for their fifth full-time manager since February 2015.
The former Chelsea manager made nine signings in the summer, including spending £12m on Ross McCormack and £15m on Jonathan Kodjia, but the strikers have scored only three goals between them and McCormack had a penalty saved against Preston at the weekend.
Di Matteo has also paid the price for Villa dropping 11 points in the final five minutes of games, when they have conceded five goals.

Villa’s net spend was £34m and Di Matteo had made assurances to the club’s hierarchy they would win promotion if they were in the top six at Christmas. However, they are 15 points behind the leaders, Huddersfield, and Xia, who bought the club in the summer, has acted.

Xia tweeted after the decision was announced: “A difficult decision 4the board. But rather sooner than later we’d make the decision. All need learn&not repeat mistakes again&again.”

How You Can Prevent Appollo – According To Expert

A medical expert in Ilorin, Dr Misbau Lawal, has advised people to imbibe the habit of regular hand washing to avoid contracting viral and bacterial infection of the eye currently spreading.

The infection, known as ‘conjunctivitis’ in medical parlance and ‘appollo’ in local parlance, is inflammation of the conjunctiva, a thin, filmy membrane that covers the white portion of the eyes.
According to Lawal, the conjunctiva, which produces mucous to coat and lubricate the surface of the eye, contains fine blood vessels that can be seen on close inspection.

Lawal advised people to keep their hands away from the eyes and thoroughly wash hands before and after applying eye medications on infected children.
He explained that conjunctivitis was a common eye problem that affected people of all age groups and one of the most common eye infections in children.

The physician added that the most common cause of irritation of the eye layer was due to allergies in the environment, which included air pollution, smoke, pollen from trees and grass.

He also explained that when the conjunctiva became irritated or inflamed, the blood vessels, which supplied it, enlarged and became more prominent, causing the eye to turn red.

According to him, symptoms include pinkness or redness in the eye red, inflamed inner eyelids, blurred vision, sandy or scratchy feeling in the eye, pus, mucous, or watery discharge from the eye.

“People who work in health care settings or with children, have a high risk of exposure to the viruses that can cause viral conjunctivitis,” he warned.
He also warned against sharing of towels, washcloth, cosmetics, or eye-drops with others, advising those infected to seek treatment promptly.

The expert also advised that infected small children, who may forget these precautions, be kept away from school, camp, and the swimming pool, until their condition was cured.

The outbreak is prevalent among children who mostly get infected from schools.
In some of the hospital visited in Ilorin metropolis, many children with symptoms of ‘apollo’, were brought for medical treatment.

Meet This Woman With 14 Daughters & She Wont Give Up Until A Boy Is Born

Augustina Higuera and hubby Jose have 14 daughters!!!

And if that wasn’t staggering enough, she beat odds of 500,000 to one to give birth to a third set of twins two months ago.
But the supermum is less thrilled that against all odds, all of her children are girls – and she has vowed to keep going until she has given husband Jose, 30, a son.

She said:

“We both really, really want a boy. We’d be over the moon, so we will keep trying.
“We’re besotted with the girls but Jose is outnumbered and it would be nice to even things out. I’m lucky that I enjoy being pregnant. I’ve never had any major problems, so it’s not a big stress for me.
“I’ve had so many girls I’m not sure what I’d do with a son. I just know I’d be blessed to have one. He and Jose would have an incredible bond. I hope I can give him that.
“I have no upper limit on how many children I’d have. I’d have another 10 if it meant having a boy.”

Celta Vigo 4 - 3 Barcelona: Celta Vigo Humbled Barcelona In A Seven Goal thriller

Gerard Pique's first-ever double for the Catalans was not enough to earn a point as the visitors paid dearly for their defensive errors.

Barcelona missed the chance to move top of La Liga as they fell to a damaging 4-3 loss away to Celta Vigo, with goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen enduring a match to forget.

Real Madrid's home draw against Eibar earlier on Sunday had opened the door for the champions to take first place, but they instead endured a miserable evening at Balaidos in a thrilling encounter.
Celta have beaten Barca in each of the last two seasons – including a 4-1 home victory last season – and raced into a three-goal half-time lead.

Pione Sisto opened the scoring following a mistake from Ter Stegen, before two goals in the space of 86 seconds – an Iago Aspas strike and an own goal from Jeremy Mathieu – rocked the visitors.

Luis Enrique's side launched a comeback after the break, with Gerard Pique's header and a Neymar penalty setting up a grandstand finish, but Ter Stegen blundered again for Pablo Hernandez's match-clinching header.

Pique did net another header in the final moments, but the hosts held on and Eduardo Berizzo now has three LaLiga victories over his Celta predecessor Luis Enrique – a man no other manager in Spain's top-flight has beaten more than once.

And Barca have now lost two of their first seven games to sit fourth in the early season table, two points behind leaders Atletico Madrid and Real.

Barca had the first chance of note when Luis Suarez drilled a low effort straight at Sergio Alvarez, but it was the home team who opened the scoring in the 22nd minute.
Ter Stegen's loose pass to Sergio Busquets led to Aspas' precise throughball finding Sisto –who also scored last week against Espanyol – and he calmly took one touch before converting with a low finish.

After 31 minutes, it was two. A long clearance from Hugo Mallo was not dealt with by Barca's defence and Pique inexplicably gave Aspas all the time he needed to dribble to the edge of the area and drill a left-footed effort into the far corner.

Enugu Rangers are NPFL champions

Fuelled by an ear-piercing noise at ‘the Cathedral’, coach Imama Akpakabo’s men put up an imposing performance to emerge as Nigeria topflight kings.

Chisom Egbuchulam will be the toast of Enugu Rangers, as his brace silenced El-Kanemi Warriors 3-0 and hand Enugu Rangers their first Nigeria Professional Football League title in 32 years.

Imama Amapakabo’s men could have emerged champions after defeating Ikorodu United in Abeokuta, but they had to wait till the last game after Rivers United played a 0-0 draw versus Abia Warriors in Port Harcourt.

Sunday's encounter was an ill-tempered one as Ifeanyi Egwin suffered a career-threatening injury after he was fouled by El Kanemi Warriors’ goalkeeper Kazeem Yekeen.
The hosts began the rout in the second minute courtesy Egbuchulam with Osas Okoro doubling the lead three minutes from half time break.

With the clock showing 44 minutes, the Nnamdi Azikwe faithful turned their attention away from the pitch as they continued cheering in deafening ‘voices’.
The Enugu Rangers players remained focused, however, and they got their third goal after 64 minutes – as the visitors’ backline was completely depleted.

The game ended with disgusting scenes after Yekeen rashly fouled Egwin in the penalty area – with Egbuchulam having the chance to complete his treble after the goalkeeper was given the marching order by referee Ferdinand Udoh.

With this resounding victory, the Flying Antelopes thus ended their search tortuous search for the Nigeria topflight diadem and they will represent Nigeria in the Caf Champions League next season.
