No Criminal Offence In Naming Dog After Person —Lawyers

The incoming Second National Vice President of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Mr. Monday Ubani, yesterday, said that no offence is committed by someone naming his dog after somebody else.

He said: “In the eye of the law, it is not criminal for somebody to name his or her dog after another person. It may be offensive by examining the circumstances under which the incident happened.

“I understand that a particular dog was named after a neighbour and both of them were not in good terms; in a Hausa community somewhere in the South-West.

“So expediency would have prevailed on him not to name his dog after somebody he was quarrelling with.

“The Bible says wisdom profited for direction. Anything you are doing must be with wisdom. If such a thing would provoke unnecessary argument, you should avoid it.”

Another Lagos-based lawyer, Mr. Tunji Muyedeen, said: “As far as I am concerned, there is no way such offence could be sustained in law. Anybody can name his pet after anybody’s name.

“He can even call the pet his name. However, spurious charge or charges may be preferred against such person.

“All of us will be living witnesses to the trial of the man. We will see what evidence the prosecution has to prosecute the accused person.”
For human rights activist, Mr. Okey Nwaguna, prosecution must show that accused had the intent to cause breach of public peace.

He said: “The motive of an accused is never and can never be established by the charge: it must be established by evidence.

“Prosecution must show that accused had the intent to cause a breach of public peace. What constitutes ‘public’ is key.”

Top court approves Russia's ban from Rio Paralympics

Russia has lost its appeal against its ban from next month's Rio Paralympic Games because of a state-sponsored doping programme, according to a decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the highest sports tribunal.
The decision to exclude Russia's entire Paralympics team, initially made on August 7 by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), means at least 250 Russian competitors are set to miss the September 7-18 event.
The CAS said its panel found the IPC "did not violate any procedural rule in dealing with the disciplinary process" which led to Russia's suspension from the event.
It said the ruling was "proportionate in the circumstances" and that the Russian Paralympic Committee "did not file any evidence contradicting the facts on which the IPC decision was based".
The IPC had gone further than the International Olympic Committee, which stopped short of a blanket ban on Russia at this month's Rio Olympics, leaving the decision instead in the hands of international sports federations.
It all started with a report for the World Anti-Doping Agency, which found the Russian government and the FSB security service had over years covered up hundreds of doping cases across the majority of Olympic sports, as well as Paralympic events.

Girl Who Spent The Night With Usain Bolt Revealed To Be The Widow Of One Of Brazil’s Most Dangerous Drug Lords

The girl who apparently spent the night with Usain Bolt after he celebrated his 30th birthday is the widow of one of Rio de Janeiro’s most dangerous drug lords.
Jady Duarte, 20, had two children with Douglas Donato Pereira, known by his chilling nickname Diná Terror, who commanded the narcotics trade in the Faz Quem Quer shantytown in the north of Rio.
The kingpin, known for being ‘violent and bloodthirsty’ and wanted for at least 10 violent crimes, was shot dead by elite police troops in March this year.
Duarte’s night with the world’s most famous athlete was revealed when she posted WhatsApp pictures that appear to show her kissing and cuddling Bolt, who has a long-term girlfriend.
In one of the photos which first appeared on several Brazilian websites including Globo after Duarte shared them with friends Bolt seems to give Duarte a kiss on the cheek while she looks into the camera.
The Jamaican sprinter, who turned 30 on Sunday, was also pictured partying until the early hours of Sunday morning at All In, a club in the Barra de Tijuca suburb of Rio.
Duarte described herself as a student, but is also the widow of Pereira, ‘Dina Terror’.
According to police, Pereira was responsible for torturing and murdering a teenage girl from the slum in September 2014.
Before his death, Pereira posted pictures of himself on his Facebook page how he was the ‘terror of policemen’. He also called himself the Lord of War.

Police tracked him down to a house in the favela, where he opened fire with a powerful Glock 9mm pistol, but was killed in the shoot out.
Following his death, Jady posted photos with the gangster on her Facebook page. One read: ‘In eternity, I will be with my love the way I always wanted, because in heaven all the time is time to be happy.
‘God will take you in, it’s my hope that in eternity I will see you.’

Nigerian military says Boko Haram leader, Shekau, wounded in deadly air strike

The Nigerian Army on Tuesday announced the death of three key commanders of the extremist Boko Haram sect.
The army said the terrorists were killed on Friday in a major air strike on their location in the dreaded Sambisa Forest.
The spokesperson for the Army, Sani Usman, said the leader of the terrorist group, Abubakar Shekau, was also inflicted with with “fatal injury” during the operation.
Mr. Sani, a colonel, said the bombardment was carried out on Friday while Mr. Shekau, who the Nigerian military had pronounced dead several times in the past years, was leading his group in performing the Friday prayers at a secret location called Tayye in the heart of the vast forest.
The military has repeatedly claimed credit for killing Mr. Shekau. But the sect denounced the claims each time saying its leader remained alive. At times, Mr. Shekau would appear in a video to prove he had not been killed.
The military however insisted that the original Abubakar Shekau had long been killed, and that the so-called Abubakar Shekau said to be alive was a made-up character.
Giving further details of Friday bombardment, Mr. Sani gave the names of those killed in the raid as Abubakar Mubi, Malam Nuhu and Malam Hamman.
Our correspondent in Maiduguri said the air raid was not immediately reported because journalists have no access to the location.                                            Military insiders also said the air force had no idea how successful the bombardments were until late Monday when the Army became aware of those killed and injured in battle.
Colonel Usman’s statement reads in full:
“In what one could describe as the most unprecedented and spectacular air raid, we have just confirmed that as a result of the interdiction efforts of the Nigerian Air Force, some key leaders of the Boko Haram terrorists have been killed while others were fatally wounded.
“The air interdiction took place last week Friday 19th August 2016, while the terrorists were performing Friday rituals at Taye village,
“Those Boko Haram terrorists commanders confirmed dead include Abubakar Mubi, Malam Nuhu and Malam Hamman, amongst others. While their leader, so called “Abubakar Shekau”, is believed to be fatally wounded on his shoulders. Several other terrorists were also wounded”.

5 Reasons Why We Think Wizkid Is Not Husband Material

Is Wizkid ready for a wife or is he still searching for Caro?…
Wizkid might be one of Nigeria’s biggest stars today, but is he ready to take on the big responsibility of being a husband? We don’t think so, and here’s why.

1. He’s Young And Just Wants To Have Fun

The most important thing to note here is that Wizkid just wants to have fun and is in no way ready to be saddled with the responsibility of taking care of a wife and family.
Let’s not forget how he vehemently fought his second baby mama, insisting her child wasn’t his.

2. He is Surrounded By Way Too Many Women    And Is Showing No Signs Of Settling

Let’s face facts, Wizkid has never been known to hold a proper, long-lasting relationship. Rather he has been linked with woman after woman over a short period of time.

His latest ‘love interest’ seems to be 20-year-old American singer, Justine Skye, but some of us are already counting down to the day we’ll hear the not-so-shocking news of a breakup.
Guess whose heart will be broken?

3. He Has Two Kids And Too Many Women Willing To Play Wife For Him Already, What Does He Need One Single Woman For Right Now?

It is general knowledge that men do not find the idea of marriage and commitment as appealing as women do. Now, what more could a flourishing young man like Wizkid, who already has children, the one thing that eventually drives a commitment-phobic man into marriage, possibly want in a wife at this point?

With the snap of a finger, he can get any woman of his choice to come around and play wife for him whenever he’s in need of being fussed over and catered to.
What more could he ask for?
Wizkid has always professed his love and admiration for late Afrobeat king, Fela Kuti, and even got a tattoo of him on his arm.
Who can ever forget the iconic man who got married to 27 women in one day and maintained, until his last day, that he did not believe in being with one woman?

Yep, that is Whizkid’s biggest mentor, and like him, we we don’t think Wizkid believes in getting tied to one woman either. He ain’t about that one man to one woman life.
So ladies, if you had any plans of getting hitched to the pop star anytime soon, you might want to think again.

4. He’s At The Peak Of His Career And Doesn’t Need That Sort Of Distraction

Wizkid is possibly the biggest thing in the country’s entertainment industry today and is solely focused on pushing his career to the maximum, and making the best of the global attention he’s currently getting.
A wife is the last thing he needs right now as we all know the great responsibility that comes with settling down.

5. Like His Mentor, Fela, He Can’t Be Loyal To One Woman

Wizkid has always professed his love and admiration for late Afrobeat king, Fela Kuti, and even got a tattoo of him on his arm.

Who can ever forget the iconic man who got married to 27 women in one day and maintained, until his last day, that he did not believe in being with one woman?

Mimi Orijiekwe reveals why she will never get a tattoo

– Nollywood actress and model Mimi Orijiekwe speaks on why she doesn’t have any tattoo on her body.
– According to her, her body is aFerrari or Bentley – She reveals that she is from a humble Christian background.Read the excerpt from her interview with Saturday beats below.                 How come you don’t have any tattoo?
I cannot draw anything on my body. I see my body as a Ferrari or a Bentley. You will never see anyone write things on such exotic cars. I keep my skin clean, I don’t want any tattoo on my body because I don’t need all that. I think if I inscribe something on my body, at a point, I might not want it any more so I don’t want to do something I would want to remove later in life and may not be able to.
How about extra body piercing?
I come for a very humble Christian background. It is not like there is anything wrong with extra body piercing but I grew up knowing my mother did not have an extra piercing on her body. She is my role model and I do not want to do anything she did not do. As the only daughter in my family, my mother was and still is the only one I look up to. I learnt how to shape my eye brows from her. She did not have an extra piercing. I copied that from her. When I was growing up and saw that my friends had multiple ears piercing, I liked it at a point but I made a decision not to indulge in it because my mother didn’t do it.
Mimi Orjiekwe came into Nollywood in 2010 but took a break due to some problems she encountered and also to complete her National Youth Service. She returned to the industry in 2012 and has appeared in a lot of movies including UNIBEN Babes, School Hour, Mean Girls, Ghost in the Palace, and Wrong Selfie, to name a few.

Comply with criteria set by FEC on admission, JAMB tells universities

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has urged Federal Government-owned universities to comply with the criteria stipulated by the Federal Executive Council(FEC) in the admission of students.
The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, made the call at the First Technical Committee Meeting on the 2016 admissions to first choice institutions on Monday at Bayero University, Kano.
He also called on the universities to focus on what was beneficial to the largest number of Nigerians. “For Federal universities, the criteria stipulated by Federal Executive council concerning merit, catchment and educationally less developed states should be complied with,” he said.
Oloyede said that at the same time, the universities should not aggravate the burden of the masses yearning for higher education as a veritable means of active participation in public life. The registrar called for commitment, synergy and cooperation between the board and the institutions.
Oloyede said he would extend the hands of fellowship to the institutions for the advancement of national goals. He also called on the institutions to ensure that the admissions exercise was concluded before or by approved deadline of Nov. 30.
Earlier in an address of welcome, the Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Prof. Yahuza Bello, commended the Federal Ministry of Education for clarifying the admission process.
“It is gratifying to note that the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, has clarified on the admission process by saying that University Senates and academic boards of other Tertiary institutions are responsible for the admissions,” he said.
Bello said with a total of 64, 220 qualified candidates through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, Bayero University was fifth in terms of number of applicants.
He commended the registrar for bringing the meeting to the university and added that it was the first time in the history of JAMB that a technical committee would be taking place in the university and in Kano city.
