We regret voting for Buhari in 2015, Chibok community says
They expressed their regrets on in Abuja at a protest rally over the inability of the government to take measures to rescue the over 200 school girls kidnapped by the terrorist group, Boko Haram, in their school in Chibok, Borno State, in 2014.
Boko Haram had last week released a video of the girls who are still alive and said they were willing to trade the girls in exchange for their members in detention in various prisons.
One of the girls, Maida Yakubu, who also spoke in the video asked their parents to beg the Nigerian government to accede to the demand of Boko Haram so that they would be released.
Speaking during the protest on Monday, the chairman of the Chibok Community, Hosea Tsambido said members of the Community and BBOG voted massively for Mr. Buhari as against his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, who they voted for in 2011.
“They tell us that our girls seen in the latest video was merely an arrangement,” Mr. Tsambido said. “No one has spoken to the family of any of the Chibok girls since the last video was released, by the terrorists. We regret our votes. We regret it.”
Speaking further, the community leader said, “We were promised that the president would visit Sambisa, after becoming president. We were also told that within two weeks our girls would be rescued.
“But over one year now, there is no tangible statement about our girls. The presidency has stated instead that it is confused.” The BBOG group said it was embarking on a fresh 14-day campaign to re-energize the clamour for the rescue of the girls.
The protesters were heading for the Presidential villa to speak with the president as they usually do during their protests.
They were however, stopped by a combined team of security personnel at the entrance of the three arms zone.
The group said the current administration has ran out of excuses regarding the return of the Chibok girls.
“No more excuses,” they chanted several times.
The protest was still ongoing as at the time of this report.
A pro-Buhari group, the Buhari Media Support Group, (BMSG), had appealed to the “BringBackOurGirls” (BBOG) to shelve today’s demonstration to the Presidential Villa.
The group in a statement by one of its members, Muhammad Labbo, said that was necessary to avoid complications and anything capable of undermining efforts of the government to rescue the girls unharmed.
Mr. Labbo noted that playing politics with the kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls was unhelpful and embarrassing to the government and counterproductive to the silent efforts of the military to rescue them.
He said the government would take serious exception to the mobilisation of the parents of the kidnapped girls to score political advantage or exploiting the tragedy to play to the gallery.
Mr. Labbo said dragging the parents of the victims to Abuja for endless demonstrations would only compound a bad situation, and give them the impression that a rescue mission “is as simple as abc.”
According to him, the BringBackOur Girls Group should not claim monopoly of patriotism and humanity over the government by seeking to undermine the silent efforts of the military to map out strategies to safely rescue the girls.
He said if there was a formula for rescuing the girls within 24 hours unharmed, government would have done that, reminding the Bring Back Our Girls group of the complexities and sensitivity of hostage rescue missions.
”The terrorists have no rules of engagement and therefore, would not mind killing all the hostages if the Nigerian military attempts any rash actions he said.

When the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) released its report for the month of April, it was not a surprise that some states got little or next to nothing from the federation account due to debt burden. These debt ravaged states are facing serious challenges at meeting up with their financial obligations. From capital to recurrent expenditure, many states are really lagging behind. One of the reasons for this is that several states in Nigeria always fail to apply the elementary economic theories of scale of preference and opportunity cost.
Currently, there are six state governors who need to buckle up and think outside the box in trying to solve its economic quagmire.
1. Rauf Aregbesola (Osun state governor)
For Osun, it received an allocation close to N2.03 billion from the federation account. However, this was not enough to pay its overall debt of N2.391 billion to the federal governmen.

Kaduna Govt to ban sale of high energy bulbs – Commissioner
The Kaduna State Government said on Monday that it would soon ban the sale of high energy consuming bulbs, as part of strategy to boost energy efficiency.
The state’s Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Muhammad Abdullahi made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna.
According to him, a state-wide campaign would be carried out next year for electricity consumers in the state to move to energy saving bulbs, before the ban is effected.
“We have already started moving from high-energy consuming bulbs to energy saving bulbs in ministries departments and agencies”.
Abdullahi said that the effort would cumulatively save N360 million, representing 30 per cent of the amount spent on light bills and fuelling of generators annually by electricity consumers in the state.
He explained that that strategy was an idea postulated by Dr Abdulkarim Mayere, who came third in the “My Great Kaduna Competition” organised by the state government in 2015.
He said that the competition was organised to source for ideas from members of the public on how to move the state forward and make Kaduna great again.
The commissioner, disclosed that Gov. Nasiru El-Rufa’i had since appointed Mayere as the General Manger of Kaduna Power Supply Company, a new company set up to ensure energy efficiency in the state.
He also said that plans were on to generate electricity from domestic waste, adding that the idea was also developed during the competition by Lwahas Adoniram, who emerge the best.
“Adoniram suggested that waste could be converted into huge employment opportunities with the local construction of turbines powered by domestic waste.
“We have already entered into discussion with the Federal Ministry of Environment and has shown interest to partner with us to make the project a reality.
“The people of the state have as much contribution to make, so we opened up the competition last year and received about 500 entries out of which 15 were selected and integrated into the state development plan.
“As you can see, we have already started implementing some of the ideas.
“The state government would continue to engage citizens in policy formulation and implementation processes in order to run a holistic people-oriented government,” the commissioner said.

Viera -Arsenal lack the Invincibles' personality
Patrick Vieira has blamed a lack of physicality and personality within Arsenal's squad for their Premier League drought under Arsene Wenger.
The club's former captain won three Premier League titles during his stay between 1996 and 2005, with their famous Invincibles team going unbeaten in his penultimate season in 2003-04 – which remains the last time the Gunners claimed the title.
Wenger has been responsible for two FA Cup wins in the last three years, but Vieira points to serious deficiencies that were not present when he enjoyed his own era of success in England as reasons for their failure to challenge in the league.
"My generation had lots of physically strong players," Vieira told The Telegraph . "In the last five or six years, Arsenal went with more of this type of technical players. The Invicibles had it all.
"Now when I watch Arsenal, they play good football, but I just have a feeling they are missing something - the physical presence, the personality. "The team is not doing as well as it used to and you need to win football matches. They've been disappointing, losing games they should have won."
Vieira believes Wenger should be doing more to involve former players who previously enjoyed success under him in order to inspire Arsenal's younger players.
"I'm disappointed not to have ex-Arsenal players working at Arsenal," Vieira explained. "It is good for the young players could see a Thierry Henry, a [Freddie] Ljungberg, or a [Martin] Keown who have been at the club a good few years working in the academy, or working somewhere.
"I think they can do it a bit more, players want to do it but do not have the opportunity.

Fight over loot exposes fake miracles syndicate in Enugu
ENUGU— Five members of a 12-man fake prophesy syndicate, which connives with church owners to dish out fabricated testimonies to woo patronage and membership, have been arrested in Enugu.
The suspects, Obi Ejike from Ubaho, Okija in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State; Kuku Mary, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State; Oluwakemi Joy, Lagos State; Nwosu Chizoba, Umunze in Anambra State, and Peter Uchechi from Ebonyi State, were nabbed at Holy Ghost Park axis weekend, following a brawl between them on the sharing formula of their booty, which attracted the attention of a police patrol team.
The ring leader, Uchechi, revealed that they were foot soldiers recruited by the handler, who remains behind the scene to give contacts of church/ministry owners, who have struck a deal with him to bring people during crusade for fake testimonies.
According to Uchechi, “we operate in all the states nationwide. Once our boss calls, he will give us the contact of the church owner.
“When we arrive, we will go through the stories with the prophet or church owner before the crusade starts. The idea is for the prophet to be familiar and abreast with the story.
Miracle hour
“When it is prophetic hour, the prophet will bring us out from the crowd to the pulpit. Thereafter, the prophet, who then pretends to be praying, will touch us and we will fall down.
“The prophet will then reveal our life challenges, which supposedly brought us to the church for miracle, and we will confirm the story. At that point, the congregation will erupt in joy not knowing that all they were witnessing was a written script meant to attract patronage and membership to the church.
“After the prophetic hour, offering time will follow. It is well designed to rake in money during offering. Some people will donate their cars, write cheques and make pledges. There are a lot of problems in the society, so people are looking for quick fix.
“We were at the bus stop around P&T axis in Enugu, when police swooped on us. We had operated at a ministry at Emene, Enugu, and were returning to Abuja when altercation broke out over sharing formula of the proceeds, when police arrested us.”
Confirming the arrest, Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, revealed that manhunt for other fleeing accomplices have been launched, adding “they will be prosecuted as they have made confessional statements.
“The public should be wary of new generational churches that spring up at every 10-meter radius in a desperate bid to eke a living for themselves.”

She said she had always dreamed of having four children and when it is time for a woman to get married, she does just that. She bared it all in this interview with PUNCH:
“I feel that when you haven’t gone through life and you don’t have a bearing in life, that’s when you see certain decisions as unreasonable. Most of these people who make these statements have not even realised what they want to do with their lives yet.
“I had planned my life right from when I was growing up. I arranged my life the way I wanted it to go. And that is why even when I was at the peak of my career and marriage came, I grabbed it because I know age keeps going and time waits for no one.
“It means that I can have all of my four kids and then still get back to shape and come back to what I love to do. So I am not going to say things like, ‘I don’t want to have kids yet’ or ‘I am not going to get married and I want to keep acting because the young shall always grow’, you are not going to be number one forever. That is why when it is time for you to do something, you do it. Yoruba will always say in their prayers that when the time for a child to talk has come, by the grace of God, she will talk. When it’s time to go to school, he will go to school. That’s what I’m trying to do. I want to define my life in a way my daughter will want to define her own life,” she said.
She further explained how she has been able to joggle her career, motherhood and marriage.
“I think what has got me this far is placing my decisions on a scale of preference. I love what I do, I adore my husband, I adore my kids, so every time I have to make a decision, I pick which is more important, and I start from there. I understand the home front is more important so I manage my home and create time to do what I have to do. I think that has helped me get this far,” she said.
4 females barred from travelling for Hajj in Bauchi
Damuna, who is also the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, said that three of the intending pilgrims were discovered to be pregnant, while the fourth was disqualified on health grounds.
He said that officials of the state medical team discovered the pregnant intending pilgrims during their final screening.
Damuna said that the other pilgrim barred on health grounds was seriously sick. “She was seriously sick and was also barred from boarding the aircraft conveying third and fourth batches of the state pilgrims on health ground,’’ he said.
The speaker said that the third batch of the pilgrims from the state consisted of those from Misau, Shira, Zaki and Bogoro Local Government Areas.
He said that the fourth batch was made up of intending pilgrims from Itas Gadau, Ningi and Jama’are Local Government Areas.
The deputy Amiral Hajj commended the management of the State Carrier, Fly Nass, for their commitment in the airlift of pilgrims to Saudi Arabia as scheduled.

The Nigeria Football Federation has congratulated the U23 national Team for winning bronze at this year’s Men’s Olympic Football Tournament in Brazil, after edging Honduras 3-2 in Belo Horizonte yesterday.

The Minister said to me that he read the donation in the papers and had expressed serious concern. I also received a mail from the NFF Integrity Officer who expressed very serious concern with this kind of donation.
“I got in touch with the Ambassador of Nigeria to Brazil and the Minister to say that whatever had to be done should be done after the Bronze Medal Match, to avoid any distractions. The NFF may be having financial challenges, but I assure you nobody in the Federation is interested in that money.
“If we get the Government’s go-ahead to collect the money, no official of the NFF will be involved even in the collection. The money will be received directly by the team.”

20 days to poll: Mass defection hits PDP
BARELY 20 days to the September 10 governorship election in Edo State, the two factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state have engaged in war of words over who is the authentic candidate of the party. The Ahmed Makarfi faction of the PDP produced Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as its governorship candidate while that of Ali Modu Sheriff produced Matthew Iduoriyekemwen. Iduoriyekemwen is from Ikpoba Okhai, one of the largest local government areas in the state, while Ize-Iyamu is from Orhiomwon.

The factional crisis has allowed the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Mr Godwin Obaseki, to harvest more of the PDP leaders across the 192 wards of the state. Last Tuesday, Iduoriyekemwen addressed journalists in Benin City, where he accused the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, of ignoring court orders which affirmed Sheriff as the PDP National Chairman.
While insisting that he remained the PDP candidate in the September election, Iduoriyekemwen, who is also a former state representatives in the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, and a former Majority Leader of the state House of Assembly, alleged that the INEC was conniving with the Markafi faction to deceive the people of Edo on the issue of the PDP flag bearer. “INEC has been behaving in a manner that has shown clear partisanship in the internal affairs of the PDP, openly making comments that tend to rubbish the court process.
You will be surprised that while we are busy campaigning, reaching out to voters, to show INEC’s bias, on the 20 of June, one Deputy Director of Public Affairs said they won’t monitor Sheriff faction’s primary. In another event, the same man said INEC was yet to take a decision since Sheriff has gone to court. But the Electoral Act is very clear, it does not make it mandatory for INEC to be present in a primary. It said INEC may or may not attend,”he said.
“I read the other day, INEC published 19 candidates for Edo guber and my question is when did INEC monitored the primaries of other parties because I am in Edo State. And in that publication, the intent is to mislead Edo people not to vote for the PDP, because you could see that recently a lot of PDP leaders are moving to APC because they know that the candidate that is supposedly being paraded by the party is not the candidate that they know can deliver the party in the next election.
When it got to the party, they wrote Ize-Iyamu’s name relying on a court order. I am here to challenge INEC to tell us what they meant by that court order, which court order are they obeying because they are a lot of court orders which said INEC should only deal with the Sheriff faction but INEC has continued to play politics to deceive Edo people? But we are determined to get justice, I remain the candidate of the party and sooner or later the court will pronounce the truth”. Shortly after, Iduoriyekemwen’s statement, Edo Youths PDP Vanguard, a pro-Ize-Iyamu group, described him as a political prostitute.
The group, on a statement by its Chairman, Eghosa Osazuwa, alleged that Iduoriyekemwen was in a mission to hand victory to the Governor Adams Oshiomhole-led APC in the poll, describing Iduoriyekemwen as an unserious politician who must apologise to the PDP. However, another group in the PDP, which is pro-Iduoriyekemwen, under the aegis of Next Generation Foundation, says it is Ize-Iyamu that needs to apologize for his political prostitution and not Iduoriyekemwen, recalling that while Ize-Iyamu had left the PDP for the then ACN, Iduoriyekemwen had been a member of the PDP since 1999.
While the two PDP factions battle for the soul of the party ahead of the election, thousands of their members defect to the APC in droves. A total 4,536 aggrieved PDP members in Egor and Ikpoba Okhai LGAs decamped to the APC, just as the AREWA group in Edo, led by the President-General, Alh.Sahabi Aliu Umar, endors
