Super Eagles are going to Zambia to win, says Gernot Rohr

The tactician is optimistic his side will get maximum points when they face the Chipolopolo in Sunday's World Cup qualifier

Nigeria's senior national team coach Gernot Rohr has declared that picking all three points remains his side target in Sunday's 2018 World Cup qualifier clash with Zambia in Ndola.
Despite injuries concerns rocking the team, the 63-year-old assured that the Super Eagles have enough quality to secure victory and stressed his desires to try out the home based players.

"I'm happy with the preparation because most of the players have arrived and I'm happy we have good training condition," Rohr told media.
"I'm happy to work with a new and young team because we have a lot of younger players here with some local players here too.

"We are going to Zambia to win the game, though it would be very difficult.
"All the four teams in the group can hope to be the best. Of course we have a look on the Zambia team because they have good players; we focus on our team and have good preparation and hope everybody work well.
"We know that in Zambia, we are going to have a difficult pitch like we saw against Kenya.

"Unfortunately, we are missing some players due to injury, but I’m happy we have some local players and I think it is a good thing to show everybody that local players too could have their chance to come into the team.
"Well, we are missing Balogun, Ighalo and others, but we also still have others players in the team and they also have a chance to show their potentials and qualities," he concluded.

Pires -Wenger Will Regret If He Takes England Job

Robert Pires has said that Arsene Wenger will be frustrated, if he takes the England job.

Wenger who has been in charge of the Gunners for 20 years now, has emerged as a favourite to take over the Three Lions, after Sam Allardyce was sacked.
His current deal at the Emirates expires in the summer.

Although Wenger has said he could manage the English team one day, Pires who played under his compatriot for six years, says he would be put off by the amount of time he would be without his players.
“Of course I see him and speak to him every morning but we don’t talk about this,” Pires said.

“A lot of people want to see Arsene Wenger as the manager of England but he has a contract with Arsenal, I don’t know what happens at the end of the season but I understand the fans in England, they need a manager like Arsene Wenger, he is a great person and a great manager.
“The situation is simple, Wenger is the manager for Arsenal. I know him, he wants to go to the pitch every morning.

“This is the most important [thing for him]. If he takes this job, it’s not the same. So, for the moment I cannot imagine Wenger working for England. This is my opinion.
“I see Arsene. He love the pitch every morning. This is like an obsession, it’s a passion. You know manager for the national team is not really the same because he loves football. This is my opinion.”

Pires also added that he hopes Wenger continues at Arsenal for more years.
“If you ask me, I hope he continues with Arsenal because since 20 years he built something at Arsenal, he won a lot of titles. I think Arsenal need Arsene Wenger,” he continued.

“Arsene Wenger loves Arsenal and this is the last season because his contract finishes, I don’t know what happens but it would be a good opportunity for England, I don’t know [if it would be] for Arsene Wenger.

“It is not the same job when you are manager of one club like Arsenal or for the country, seriously I don’t know what he wants for the future.”

Facebook Launches Market Place: Where You Can Buy & Sell Any Items

Facebook has gone beyond just a social media where you chat and interact with like minded people but now, it has launched its own online market place where you can buy and sell any item to people within your community.

According to Facebook Project Manager Bowen Pan, up to 450 million people already use Facebook to buy and sell used goods every month, mainly through its groups feature.
With Marketplace, Facebook is now giving users a more formal process to conduct these exchanges.

Facebook Market place is a destination for people to find—and make offers for—items directly through Facebook’s mobile app. A button for Marketplace will replace the Messenger icon in the bottom center of the app.
In other words, what you can do on Jiji OLX etc you can now do on Facebook market place.

But it’s important to note that in terms of safety and financial security, Facebook does not have the same kinds of protections or guarantees as eBay. All sales are handled offline and by users themselves.
How Do I Sell Items on Facebook Market Place?

1. Take a photo of your item, or add it from your camera roll

2. Enter a product name, description and price

3. Confirm your location and select a
category

4. Post

Marketplace will be rolling out to everyone over 18 years old in the US, UK, Australia, and New Zealand on the Facebook app for iPhone and Android.
Subsequently, it will be expanded to other countries of the world

Baba Suwe Is Ill & Can Hardly Walk – Actor Yomi Fabiyi Cries Out For Help

Actor Yomi Fabiyi has cried out for help saying Babatunde Omidina popularly known as Baba Suwe is sick and can hardly walk at the moment. According to him, this is due to the torture he got from the NDLEA when he was accused of ingesting drugs and was detained. Yomi says, the alleged pipe that was inserted in the actor through his anus is responsible for his health issues now.

He took to his IG to call on well meaning Nigerians and his colleagues to come to his aid as NDLEA is yet to pay him the N25m compensation awarded to him by the law court. What Yomi wrote below;

ON BABA SUWE: I am calling on all SENIOR COLLEAGUES in the entertainment world especially those close to Baba Suwe cos I don’t have everyone’s contact to please reachout to him asap. The torture done on him by NDLEA is vastly damaging his health at an alarming rate. He told me he no longer feel comfortable since that episode. Baba Suwe is a widower, he can hardly walk properly as I speak, let alone go to film. How will he feed and take care of the children aunty Moladun left behind?

This is an A-List Entertainer and this conspiracy of silence gives me MENTAL AGONY on my part, I don’t want to speak when it may be too late, I won’t forgive myself. He told me when I visited him that he is innocent of the accusations and yet a LONG PIPE was inserted through his anus, he was detained for too long amongst other things just because he was randomly suspected like every normal person.

In my opinion, only lazy, ill-trained, unfit and uncivilised officers torture in the name of investigation. Torture is criminal and sinful. If this accusation is found to be true by independent investigators, it shouldn’t go unpunished.

The court asked NDLEA to pay him 25million for damages which is yet to be obeyed but to me an OPEN APOLOGY will placate him and illustrate some dignified and civil approach from a government agency that made him go through all that without coming up with a single proof after that prolonged detention and drama.

He who assert MUST prove! NDLEA needs to restore public confidence by doing the needful on this matter. And until individuals and government agency begin to respect fundamental HUMAN RIGHT and enhance duty of care, the essence of Nigeria’s FREEDOM is far from been realistic.

No malice is intended against NDLEA with this outcry, I just hope the leadership see this as a clarion call for getting it right and save the agency from sending an innocent person to an early grave whereby leaving his children to suffer unjustly. My humble take. Thank you. Yomi

“Our Parents Are Really Suffering” – Students Beg Ajimobi

Daily Post reports that the president of federation of Oyo state students’ union, University of Abuja chapter, Adebimpe Peter Babatunde has cried out to Oyo state governor, Abiola Ajimobi to pay outstanding salaries to their workers.

Babatunde urged him to prioritize payment of workers’ salary arrears as their parents are suffering.
However, he recognized the efforts Ajimobi has taken to make Oyo state a better place like the recent creation of local council development areas aimed at bringing government closer to the people,
“Governor Ajimobi should make payment of workers salary as one of the cardinal agenda of his government,” the leader noted.

“Our parents are suffering. The government should not do as if all is well in the state; we suffer in our various schools as students from Oyo State because our parents have no money to cater for our needs.

“We have several cases of self withdrawal from higher institutions because of inability to meet up with the financial obligations required. This is not good enough for a state that is noted for playing leading roles in the nation.

“Oyo state as we all know is a pace setter, we make good records not bad records for other states to emulate. We appeal to the governor to sustain the good names of the state right from the days of the late sage, Papa Obafemi Awolowo,” he said.

Adebimpe further urged Ajimobi to increase the state’s internally generated revenue instead of total dependence on the monthly sharing of the federal allocation.
“The era of banking on the monthly sharing of money from the Federation Account is over due to the collapsing of the crude oil prices in the international market.

“Governors should think out of the box to justify the mandate given to them by the voters,” the statement concluded,” he said.
The war between the government and Oyo workers over unpaid salaries have been lingering for a while.

However, last year, The Oyo state chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has blasted Governor Abiola Ajimobi for failing to pay the balance of April salaries to staff of local government including Primary School teachers in Oyo state.

The NLC described Ajimobi’s refusal to pay salaries as a rejection of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) mutually singed in the wake of the salary crisis that bedeviled the state.

You Won’t Believe What FG Plans To Do With Buhari’s “Change Begins With Me”

The federal government has mapped out plans to sell the just launched “change begins with me” campaign.

In a statement signed by the Segun Adeyemi, the special assistant to the minister of information, the new campaign will be unveiled to the private business owners in Nigeria.

Adeyemi in the statement said the minister of information Lai Mohammed will perform the unveiling ceremony on Thursday, October 6 to the private sector.

The minister said the plan to unveil the campaign to this sector of Nigeria’s economy is in line with the pronouncement by President Muhammadu Buhari that the private sector is a major stakeholder at the launch of the initiative.

He said: “The unveiling will not only deepen the private sector’s understanding of the campaign, but will also make it possible for that critical sector to know how they can key in to it.”

He also noted that the unveiling ceremony will take place by 11 am at the Abora Hall of the Eko Hotel and suites on Thursday, October 6.
The “change begins with me” campaign was launched by President Buhari on September 8, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The campaign is aimed at changing the attitude of Nigerians towards positive behaviour that could improve on the country’s quest for a sustainable development.

Meanwhile, the campaign has also been marred with various scandals like the pronouncement made by two media consultants that the idea was stolen by the present administration.

Similarly, some days after the “change begins with me” campaign it was observed that the speech given by the president was plagiarized from another speech by the president of the United States of America Barack Obama.
The presidency have also claimed that the presidential media aide has been sacked over the incident.

IMF - Good News, Nigeria Will Be Out Of Recession In 2017

As economic recession bite harder on Nigerians, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has projected that Nigeria’s economy will be out of recession in 2017.

According to IMF, the economy will grow by 0.6 percent next year adding that it is projected that the recession will outlast 2016 with a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) contraction of 1.7 percent.

“Sub-Saharan Africa’s largest economies continue to struggle with lower commodity revenues, weighing on growth in the region,” IMF said in its World Economic Outlook (WEO) report released in Washington
“Nigeria’s economy is forecast to shrink 1.7 percent in 2016 and South Africa’s will barely expand. By contrast, several of the region’s non resource exporters, including Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Senegal are expected to continue to grow at a robust pace of more than five percent this year.”
IMF also forecasted a GDP contraction and subsequent recession for Russia and Brazil throughout 2016.

The fund added: “Growth in emerging Asia and especially India continues to be resilient.
“India’s gross domestic product is projected to expand 7.6 percent this year and next, the fastest pace among the world’s major economies.”

Maurice Obstfeld, IMF chief economist and economic counsellor, who spoke on the outlook, said global economic growth would remain subdued in 2016 following a slowdown in the United States of America and Britain’s vote to leave the European Union.

Obstfeld also stated that the fund forecasted a slight pickup in 2017 and beyond, driven mainly by emerging market strength.
“Taken as a whole, the world economy has moved sideways. We have slightly marked down 2016 growth prospects for advanced economies while marking up those in the rest of the world.”

Nigeria’s economy was earlier projected to contract by 1.8 percent in 2016, but the October version of the WEO has seen that reviewed positively to a contraction of only 1.7 percent.
The country has recorded a 0.36 and 2.06 percent contraction in the first and second quarter of 2016 respectively, plunging into its worst recession in 29 years.

Suspended Hausa Actress Rahama Releases Open Letter

Top Kannywood actress, Rahama Sadau, who was suspended/expelled recently has released an open letter over the issue and apologized to her fans. She got into trouble for featuring in a romantic musical video.

Read the letter by Rahama below:

Following the events of the last few days and MOPPAN’s unilateral decision to exclude me from the Hausa indigenous film industry, known
as Kannywood, I would like to use this medium to address my fans, friends, those who have been affected and all who have shown concern.

To those who I have offended in any way, shape or form and who I have caused any anxiety by featuring in the said music video, I sincerely apologise. It was a job and I was carrying out my role in my profession, as I would in any other production, be it a Hausa language film or a Nollywood production.

However, innocuous touching with other people in my line of work is inevitable.
I have lines that I would never cross and indeed I live and stand by the tenets, “actions are judged according to intentions”. The outcome of the events that have taken place has come as a surprise to us all.

I may have fallen short of some people’s expectations, but it was never my intention. I make no excuses for my actions and I take full responsibility.
Thank you to all those who have reached out at this time and to everyone in general for your unwavering support.

Your passion and loyalty hasn’t gone unnoticed and I am privileged to have your support. This, I do not take for granted and I want nothing more than to continue making you all proud.

I implore us all to be more tolerant and forgiving towards one another and to cease all the senseless abuse, name-calling and backbiting.

This achieves nothing other than to cause a huge divide amongst us. May we all continue to benefit from the Almighty’s mercy and may He protect and guide us all as we go about our daily lives.

Rahama Sadau

Olamide Gave Me Complete Free Will In The Production Of “GOLD” Album – Adekunle Gold Reveals

Adekunle Gold has been excellent so far with his debut album “GOLD” receiving rave reviews at the moment. The YBNL star now speaks to Guardian Life on his music, Gold album and other issues lingering around especially his controversial single “Ariwo Ko“, which makes believe that the single was crafted for certain people.

Its no lie that the Gold album is exceptional and Adekunle Gold is also surprised at the reception the album got.

Adekunle said;

“I expected success, but what I didn’t expect was a huge outpouring of love and it’s been amazing, ever since I dropped the album, it’s been love all the way, I’ve travelled out of the country and the reception has been equally amazing.”
When rising acts sign to record labels, not much room is given to them to use their discretion, their always under strict supervision but with Adekunle and his YBNL boss, Olamide, that was totally different as he got all the space to spice up his album with his own creativity.
“For my album “Gold”, I pretty much wrote the music myself. During production, I was the one telling the producer which direction I wanted everything to go. Olamide really entrusted everything to me, and was always there to remind me that he knows I can do it.
He’d say “Just see it as your business, I’m only here to guide you.” So based on all this, it really just made sense to put me as the executive producer. And of course, I got the approval from my oga (Olamide).”

Rice Smuggled Into The Country Not Fit For Consumption – Customs Warns Nigerians

Mr Hameed Ali, the Comptroller-General of Customs, has said 99 per cent of rice smuggled through the land borders into the country are not fit for human consumption.

He said this at a joint news conference on illegal rice importation to Nigeria yesterday in Abuja.
He said samples of some of the rice seizures made over a period were referred to NAFDAC to ascertain their condition.

He said the test reports certified that smuggled rice through the borders was unfit for human consumption and so Nigerians should desist from it.

“Importation of rice into the country is not banned but restricted on the point of entry to seaports only. We remain firm in our resolve to enforce the restriction of rice imports only to our seaports.

We have re-organised our anti-smuggling patrols to provide additional capability and bite,” Mr. Ali said while speaking on how to stop them from coming into the country.

Coach Says Ghanaian Premier League Cannot Develop Because Players Have ‘Too Much S3X’

Former Ghana international Malik Jabir has blamed the wild s*x life of the players as the reason why the Ghanaian domestic league is not developing.

According to Jabir, who now manages Asante Kotoko, the league has not progressed as hoped because players spend time having intercourse before matches.
“A lot of today’s players cannot play 90 minutes because they get so tired easily,” he told a national radio station. “And you know why? Because they don’t sleep enough and don’t train enough and they engage in too much s*x.

“There are beautiful young girls in Ghana and they won’t leave them alone.”
Jabir explained that players struggle to manage their time properly and has urged them to find a balance between football and s*x.

He added: “There is time for s*x and time for football, but if you mix the two you will never reach the top.”

We Don’t Have Funds For Match Against Zambia,- NFF Cries Out

Amaju Pinnick, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation yesterday said they lack adequate funds for the Super Eagles’ World Cup qualifier against Zambia in Ndola on Sunday.

Pinnick said this when he appeared before the Senate Committee on Sports yesterday. His words;
“Nigeria was paired with former Africa Cup of Nations winners, Zambia, Algeria and Cameroon, who have been to the World Cup seven times. Algeria is the highest ranked team in Africa as we speak.

It is a group that is called ‘Group of Death’, which means we need to intensify our preparations. We need to monitor our players and make sure that the ticket is made available.

“The good news is that I think we have a very sound technical crew and we also have a lot of our players doing very well, but the missing link is our financial incapacitation, which activates practically everything you do on the field and off the field.

“Before now, we have sent a representation to government for intervention because funds were not coming in from our sponsors, which relates to the economy of the country at the moment and it has been very difficult for them –that is what they claim. So, we didn’t have any option but to resort to writing to government, which we did and we are still waiting for a response from them and the match is five days away.”

Beautiful 35-Years Old Lady Died A Month To Her Wedding As Family Blames Fiancé

A 35-year-old woman, Loretta Ewere, has been electrocuted at her fiance’s home on Ajoke Kazeem Street in the Idimu area of Lagos State.

Punch Metro learnt that Ewere’s fiancé, Segun Tolani, was fixing an electrical fault when the incident happened.
She was said to have been rushed to a private hospital in the area but was rejected before being confirmed dead at the Igando General Hospital.

A Punch correspondent, who visited the area on Tuesday, gathered that Ewere and Tolani had scheduled their wedding for November and preparation was in top gear when tragedy struck.
A resident, who did not want to be identified, said the incident happened around 1pm on Saturday, adding that it created chaos in the neighbourhood.

He said, “The man had wanted to change his old cable TV decoder and antenna. When power was restored, he discovered that he didn’t have electricity in his house.
“He wanted to do it himself, but neighbours advised him to get the service of an electrician. He contacted an electrician who billed him N2,500. But he said the charge was too high. He decided to go and rent a wooden ladder from someone in the area.

“He mounted the ladder on the wall and called the lady from inside the room to assist him in holding the ladder. She held the ladder with one hand and held an iron pole beside the room with the other hand.
“While he was working, the wire fell and touched the pole she was holding and that was how she was electrocuted.”

Punch Metro learnt that Tolani called for help from a next-door neighbour, whose wife reportedly rushed to the scene to pull out the victim with her bare hands.
She was reportedly flung by the electric current.

An electrician was said to have been invited, who then disconnected the power.
“The woman fell down and hit her head against the concrete floor. People tried to resuscitate her by giving her milk; but she didn’t come round. A lot of time had been wasted. She was rushed to a private hospital in the area, but she was rejected.
“We took her to the general hospital, where she was confirmed dead. Her corpse was deposited in a mortuary,” another resident said.

Punch Metro gathered that Ewere, an indigene of Ewuru, Delta State, worked in Union Diagnostics, a medical lab in Ikeja, while Tolani, who hails from Ekiti State, worked with an insurance company.
When our correspondent visited the victim’s family house on Ogidan Street, Idimu, they said the family was too distraught to talk about the incident.

However, a relative, who identified himself simply as Charles, blamed the incident on Tolani’s stinginess.
He explained that the duo had been living together for the past four years, adding that the two families had started preparation for their wedding.

He said, “They did their introduction four years ago and since then, they had been staying together. Their marriage was slated for November and the two families have bought clothes and sent invitation to people.
“Around 1pm of the day that she died, she called one of her friends that she would be going to shop for the wedding, not knowing that she would die that day.

“It was the man’s stinginess that killed her. If he had paid someone to fix the electrical fault, this would not have happened.”
Meanwhile, friends of the victim have started paying tributes to her on the social media.

One of them, Kehinde, wrote on Facebook, “Loretta (Ewere), a member of the Purchasing and Supply Students Association, The Polytechnic Ibadan, was kind-hearted, brilliant and reserved. The industrious lady was preparing for her last two exams (slated for October 4 and 6) left for her to become a graduate when she died. We love you, but God loves you most. I pray He accepts your soul and comforts your household.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident.
She said the corpse had been deposited in a mortuary for autopsy.

She said, “The woman, Loretta Ewere, was electrocuted around 9am. She was living with one Segun Tolani, to whom she was supposed to be married next month. They were fixing a GoTV antenna when power was suddenly restored. Ewere, who was holding the antenna wire, was electrocuted. The corpse has been deposited in a mortuary for a post-mortem examination.”

Rooney tired of debate over his favourite position

Wayne Rooney has promised to accept whatever role England manager Gareth Southgate wants him to play after admitting he is tired of the debate about his best position.

Rooney has spent the best days of his glittering career as a striker, but he was deployed in midfield by then England boss Roy Hodgson at Euro 2016 after finishing last season with Manchester United in the same position.
However, the England captain often positioned himself in a deep-lying role in last month’s World Cup qualifier against Slovakia.

That was the only match for England manager Sam Allardyce before his shock departure last week and, with interim boss Southgate preparing to name his side for Saturday’s qualifier against Malta, Rooney has been quizzed about his preferred role once again.
“I don’t know, it’s a question for Gareth,” a visibly annoyed Rooney told reporters on Tuesday.
“The question of where I’m going to play… it’s getting a bit tired the question of whether I’m going to play as a striker, in midfield or as a number 10.

“I’ve answered that question many times and it’s the same answer: I’ll play wherever the manager wants me to play.
“I don’t pick myself, I haven’t picked myself ever and I will play to instructions.
“I’m sure the instructions from Gareth, whether it’s to play or not to play, are instructions I will carry out to the best of my ability.”

– Irritation –

Rooney’s clear irritation at the constant questions compounds a difficult time for the 30-year-old at club level.

Named on the bench for United’s last three matches, he arrives on England duty in the unusual position of looking for game time.
“Of course you want to play as a footballer player but it is my job, I love football and I love being involved with the team,” he said.

“Obviously I’m not starting at the moment at Manchester United but I have to work hard to try to get back in the team and the starting line-up, which I’m doing, and when I get my chance I have to take it.
“But again I’m fully supportive of the team and the players, the manager and Manchester United.

“Of course I want to be involved but the most important thing is that we win.”
Rooney’s desire for team success is just the same at international level, where Southgate will be leaning on him to lead during this unstable period.

Understandably pleased to have been kept on as captain by his former international team-mate, Rooney hopes to repay the manager with strong performances against Malta and Slovenia over the next week.
“Of course we have to come here and be prepared to do our job,” Rooney said.
“In terms of starting again, I’m not sure. We need to build on the three points we got in the last game.

“We have to concentrate on the football, which I’m sure we will have no problem doing and the other side of it is not our issue or anything for us to be concerned about.”
